Even the good ways to store them are kind of ridiculous. Put them cataloged into a warehouse for how long and at what cost?

Much like well-logs, well cores contain incredible amounts of information about the geology surrounding a well-site, prospect, etc. The really cool thing about well-logs is they can be stored and used years later to explore new opportunities or revitalize old plays.

What makes well cores so challenging?

Cores are much more challenging because they can’t be folded and put in a file cabinet for later. Cores are usually stored haphazardly with little documentation. Even if a core is properly cataloged it may never be fully utilized for logistical reasons. This is a sad situation, indeed!

Often core logging is relegated to the least experienced geologists. This important (and expensive) data needs to be effectively and quickly made available to the experienced geologist. Hyperspectral imaging can easily and quickly fix this problem and make the cores and their data available to present and future geologists and explorationists.

Hyperspectral Imaging can fix this

Hyperspectral core scanning records much more than a simple color image does. It records specific chemical properties not detectable in the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Hyperspectral imagery records multi-dimensional data including important mineralogic and spatial information. These data can be quickly and easily conveyed to decision-makers now and saved for future exploration.

Legacy Core Scanning, LLC is dedicated to providing the highest quality hyperspectral imagery (HSI) data processing and software products. If you have a hyperspectral project, we can help you find the best source for data collection, perform ground truth, provide atmospheric correction, and deliver final map products.

What makes us different?

We are a company that specializes in collecting Hyperspectral Imagery of your cores at your location. Unlike most of our competitors, you can hand us a thin section, hand sample, piece of core, or outcrop and we can image it for you in just a few minutes. We don’t need no “big ol jet airliner,” or huge flatbed rig, no we just take a picture. We bring a brief-case-sized spectrometer and a few lights to illuminate your cores. We take a few pictures, merge them into one file, and hand you a thumb-drive with your data on it.

If you want to analyze your HSI data, we have the Hyperspectral Mineral Detection (HMD)TM software package which produces ENVI-compatible data files. We can modify HMD to suit your individual exploration needs.

Contact us now to discuss your project!

Legacy Core Scanning, LLC
Brian S.
